Almost every
constituent association of IAOPA has among its members pilots
who are substantial members of the business and/or political
community. It is normal to find that many of these members
are on friendly terms with government officials and often
are in a position to exercise a considerable amount of influence
if properly motivated and informed.
One organization has found that an effective tool in working
with government officials is a list of their members who
have indicated that they are in a position to talk to influential
officials and have expressed willingness to help on general
aviation issues. Normally, such a list is used with care
and discretion so as to not place excessive demands on any
one individual. The confidentiality of the list also is
maintained to prevent repercussions or abuse. This procedure
has proven to be effective and a very powerful voice for
general aviation.
